BAGS OF IDEAS: Steam-cooking bags for retail/counter use with two (ore more) compartments

Steam-cooking bags for oven/microwave with two or more compartments

A STEAM-COOKING bag for oven or microwave with two or more compartments that can be filled and sealed independently is the newest addition to the Sirane product range.

Steam-cooking bags are an increasingly popular way of cooking – it’s a concept that’s taking off around the world – and this new format adds a whole new range of possibilities.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “This new format is great for retailers. It allows the two (or more) compartments of the bag to be filled separately – and sealed separately. There’s no contamination from one compartment to the next, and they don’t even need to be filled and sealed at the same time, or indeed in the same production facility.

“Of course they can be – over the counter you could add fish with a marinade in one side, and vegetables in the other, making the perfect ‘over-the-counter’ ready meal.

“But there’s also possibilities for pre-packed meals where fish, for example, is added on one site, that half of the bag is sealed, and then the vegetables added elsewhere and sealed.

“Whether it’s for production reasons or to keep the food separate, because the contents need different cooking times or just because it looks more visually appealing, there’s lots of reasons why a cooking bag like this might be the answer to your problems.

“It’s possible to supply the two compartments with a tear-off perforation, allowing them to be separated by the consumer – different cooking times are no problem, or if the customer wants to cook one in the oven and one in the microwave there’s no problem.”

Sirane’s steam-cooking bags allow all the flavours to be sealed in for simple, tasty cooking – perfect for healthy cooking and portion control, without sacrificing flavour. Once sealed by the retailer, the customer just puts the bag in the oven or microwave and cooks – it’s that easy. With our standard steam-cooking bags both heat-sealable and self-seal versions of the bags are available. Bags can also be supplied printed with custom branding.

We’ve also recently added a stand-up version of the steam-cooking bags – allowing retailers to pre-pack the bags and present them to the customers in an attractive way.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sirane sales director, said: “Simple healthy steam cooking and straight-to-oven or microwave food doesn’t have to sacrifice on flavours. Globally, this way of presenting, retailing and cooking fresh food is becoming more and more popular.

“The bags are perfect for supermarket fresh fish or meat counters, allowing a whole meal to be sealed in a bag and handed to the customer – it just needs cooking. They’re also great for offering ready-to-cook portions of prepared vegetables in a convenient format.

“Consumers often don’t know what to do with fish, they don’t know how to cook it. Our bags have helped increase seafood sales significantly, as you can hand over a piece of fish, in a bag, with a tasty sauce – all you need to do is suggest a cooking time. Not only that but the bag pays for itself, due to the premium price you can charge for the fish.

“Or place some vegetables, such as asparagus or new potatoes, with a flavoured butter – easily transforming a simple portion of vegetables into a tasty side-dish portion; and our new format means you could offer chicken and sauce in one compartment, potatoes with a flavoured butter in a second and asparagus in a third – a whole meal in one bag.”

The bags are designed to be used safely in a conventional oven at up to 200 degrees celsius, in a microwave - and can be frozen for subsequent reheating and eating.

Our steam-cooking bags can be used as a retail counter bag – but are also available in retail packs so that users can buy the bags and use them in a way that suits them. We also offer them in individually-packed sachets, allowing the bag to be included as part of a meal kit, for example, where customers put the food in the bags themselves.

“Sell your fish, poultry or vegetables in a bag or with some bags, the choice is yours,” added Mr Haydn-Davies. “Either way, you’re making it easier for your customers.”

Sirane’s steam-cooking bags are made from very high temperature resistant film, which combines practicality with simplicity. The meal is sealed in using a fold-over flap or heat-sealed – depending on choice - and the bag becomes odour and leak-proof.

Simon Balderson, Sirane’s MD, said: “Steam-cooking bags are not only perfect for home users wanting to create a simple yet tasty meal, but also for retailers wanting to send customers home with a great tasting meal to put straight into the oven or microwave.”

Sirane launched the Bags of Ideas campaign earlier this year as a way of presenting and simplifying all our cooking bags solutions; steam-cooking bags, oven/BBQ bags, flavoured cooking bags, nylon roasting bags, sous-vide bags, slow-cooker liners and more.
